DESCRIPTION:
The tour starts at 8:30 am, an early morning drive to San Pedro Calungsod Chapel the first Visayan Saint and considered the role model of the youth located at the SM Seaside Complex at the South Road Properties going south of Cebu City. The church stands as a sanctuary of stone, sand and glass from where we can mediate on the changes happening in the world and find strength in our encounter with the inexplicable mysteries of God.
Drive back towards the city and stop at Fort San Pedro, the smallest and oldest triangular bastion fort in the country. It served as a stronghold for Filipino revolutionaries near the end of the 19th century and served as the nucleus of the first Spanish settlement in the Philippines. Proceed to Magellan's Cross and Cebu's most important historical landmark and an important shrine. The ceiling mural of the kiosk that shelter the cross depicts Magellan's landing in Cebu in 1521 and is the spot where the first mass was held in Cebu. A few steps from Magellan's Cross is the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño which is the oldest Roman Catholic Church established in the country. It houses the oldest religious image of the Child Jesus.
A short distance from the Basilica Minore is the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral with a museum that houses religious relics. It is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu. A few meters from the Cebu Cathedral Church is the Parian District which was home to the famous/rich people of Cebu City. In the center of Parian now stands the Cebu Heritage Monument. The mammoth structure depicts the significant moments in Cebu's history from the arrival of Magellan, the Cebuano veneration of Sto. Niño and the beatification of the first Cebuano Saint Pedro Calungsod. The tour proceeds to Osmena Boulevard, towards the Cebu Provincial Capitol, the seat of government of the Province of Cebu and passing through Ayala Business Park housing the second largest mall in the city before returning to the hotel.
